The subscription based electronic free-to-air TV program guide (EPG) IceTV now has a new feature which offers TV show recommendations to viewers, based on their viewing and recording habits.
Suggested TV shows are displayed as an IceTV Recommendation using a separate icon within the IceTV electronic program guide (EPG), allowing IceTV users to easily locate and then select them for more information. From there, it’s up to the user as to whether they wish to click and record the suggested program or ignore it.
The Recommendations can be seen on the IceTV Website when logged in, or while using the new IceTV Widget.
“With more and more channels and digital free-to-air (FTA) content to choose from, it is fast becoming difficult to find new shows that you may be interested in. IceTV Recommendations is a fantastic and easy way for you to discover shows that you may not have known about,” said IceTV General Manager, Matt Kossatz.
The feature has been provided to IceTV users as part of a partnership between the company and Perth based start-up Recommendation Ventures.
“This partnership is personally very exciting. I’m a huge fan of IceTV and watching time-shifted television. When we first designed the recommendation engine it was television shows that I most wanted to see being recommended. It’s fantastic receiving TV recommendations that match my tastes, it’s like my own personalised television guide that adapts to what I love,” said Recommendation Ventures CEO Richard Giles.
Added Kossatz: “Our partnership with Recommendation Ventures is very exciting as the methodology can easily be adapted in the future to suggest other forms of content to IceTV users, such as downloadable video content or DVDs sent in the post.”
