A smart activewear company, Pivot Yoga, have launched their first range of yoga wear which brings yoga classes into the home using artificial intelligence and motion sensor technology.
The activewear set, which includes yoga pants and a shirt developed by Pivot, features motion technology developed by TuringSense and through the use of the Pivot app, yogis will be able to see and correct their stance during yoga poses.
The clothing is embedded with 16 sensors (nine in the shirt, seven in the pants) that are each the size of an American dime.
These sensors track the user’s movements, comparing them to typical yoga positions to ensure yogis are performing the poses correctly
“We’re excited for yogis all over North America,” said Joe Chamdani, CEO & Co-Founder of TuringSense, in a press release.
“We know how hard it is to learn yoga, how much yogis want to improve, and how many yogis want to practice at home. Solving these problems has required putting million-dollar technology into the hands of a yogi for less than the cost of a few classes.”
In addition to the smart activewear, users can access yoga classes from Pivot’s catalogue of yoga instructors through their phone, computer, or television via the free app.
Once the class begins, Pivot creates a live avatar of the user’s body so they can see a real-time movement of their body alongside their instructor.
A yogi can ask their instructor how they are faring and correct their pose according to the teacher’s instructions.
“Our vision is really big. It’s not just to be the Netflix or Peloton of yoga—we want to build a whole new, interactive, and completely customized way to learn and practice,” Chamdani said.
The complete set costs US$99 to pre-order and their content subscription costs $19 p/month, which is needed to access the online classes.
The Pivot app is free and will only be available on Apple and iOS devices at launch, with Android versions to follow at a later date.
Currently only available in North America, but this product has the potential to reach yogis all over the world.
