The Sydney Morning Herald has finally woken up to problems with the iPhone 4 flash which SmartHouse first report six weeks ago. The problem that is caused by poor case design was initially identified by Apple early in July.
In a front page story the SMH claims that iPhone fan forums have been littered with users who say their photos are being tainted by blue, yellow and green splotches. Apple issued a warning to case manufacturers in July warning that the camera’s flash hole on several cases are causing images to come out blurred or have colour rings around them.
SmartHouse first identified the problem in July under the headline “Major Problem With iPhone 4 Flash Cases”. See story here.
The issue, which only becomes apparent when the camera has been used, is affecting several iPhone 4 accessory companies in Australia who instead of withdrawing the faulty stock decided to hold the stock until the iPhone was launched in Australia.
According to David Murray, a director at local distributor Conexus, several companies are affected by the issue.
“When we were alerted to the problem we contacted Trexta who supply us with iPhone 4 cases. They advised that they were aware of the problem and had a fix for it”.
Another distributor said: “Several distributors who had worked on getting in early with iPhone 4 accessories are set to be hit hard by the problem”.
One reader told SmartHouse”I bought an iPhone 4 for my wife and we were happy with it until she took a picture that required the use of a flash. It produced a horrible blue hue over the picture. We get this result every time we take a low light picture with the case on. With the case off, there’s no issue”.
