Snapchat has caved to its users and put stories back where they used to be, on the right hand window.
The social media company been in hot water with its users over its controversial move putting stories within their feed, which has affected business to the extent where celebrity tweets caused shares to plummet and its revenue missed expectations.
However, the right hand pane does not look how it used to before the change. Friends stories are listed at the top with subscriptions below with a ‘for you’ explore page at the bottom showing celebrities and news outlets the app think a user would enjoy.
Last week, Snapchat Q1 revenue jumped 54 per cent to US$230m missing analyst estimates of US$243m, this caused shares to drop 16 per cent.
Snap CEO Evan Spiegel has always defended his decision to move stories telling shareholders, “People are saying, ‘I used to feel like this celebrity was my friend and now they’re not my friend anymore.’ Exactly. They’re not your friend.”
Last week he said about the design, “A change this big to existing behaviour comes with some disruption. We are already starting to see early signs of stabilisation.”
Reality star Kylie Jenner tweeted out “sooo does anyone else not open Snapchat anymore? Or is it just me… ugh this is so sad.” This tweet caused the social media company lose US$1.3bn in market value overnight.
Another famous Snapchat user model Chrissy Teigen has also announced she will no longer be using the platform.
This move could help Snapchat gain back its users but maybe the damage is already done.
The update is available now on both iOS and Android.
