Wireless multi-room music system maker Sonos, has released a software update which allows Sonos users to play songs using Windows Media Player 11 on XP or Vista.
Sonos System Software 2.1 is designed to be a one-button software upgrade which will allow users to play songs from music download services that use Windows Media DRM, such as BigPond Music. The software release also includes improved playlist and volume normalisation support for Apple iTunes 7.0, the company says.
Sonos CEO, John MacFarlane said “We are determined to make the entire universe of music available to our customers and today’s software release is a very big step towards this goal.”
Sonos will announce support of other digital music stores throughout Australia, UK and Europe in the near future.
Microsoft and Sonos will be demonstrating this technology at the CES 07 expo in Las Vegas.
