First unveiled at CES 2019, Sony is gearing up to release its 2019 TV line, with the top-end model — a 98-inch 8K HDR TV — slated to cost a staggering US$70,000 (approximately AU$98,275 before GST). Local pricing and availability have not been released.
Lately, concerns have been raised that Sony may go the way of its smartphone business and withdraw from the Australian market. More on that here.
Sony has also made headlines in recent weeks for its bus-sized 16K television, which may take decades to pare down to consumer eligible product.
On Sony’s 2019 lineup for products heading to Australia, it mentioned the 85-Inch MASTER Series Z9G 8K LCD (US$13,000), the smaller brother to the 98-inch, which is set to arrive in the second half of 2019 — the 98-inch was not mentioned.
For those willing to slum it with a 4K model, Sony’s MASTER Series A9G 4K OLED (from US$3,500-$8,000) will be available in 55”, 65”, and 77” in the coming months. Local pricing to be confirmed.
Although still on the pricier end, the A9G offers the same Picture Processor X1 Ultimate chip as the Z9G in addition to the upcoming AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support for Apple fans.
Further down the totem pole is the A8G BRAVIA OLED 4K TV with a 4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme chip with Sony’s Acoustic Surface Audio, where the display is used as the speaker, with pricing set to start from US$2,500.
