Following its debut at this year’s Mobile World Congress, Sony’s high-end Xperia XZ Premium smartphone has finally been confirmed for Australian availability.
Boasting a HDR-ready 4K display, Snapdragon 835 processor and 19-megapixel camera – the XZ Premium takes the featureset of last year’s XZ to a new extreme.
Sony have previously talked up the synergy between the specs and design on display here, saying “every aspect of the XZ Premium is unified, from its seamless flowing lines and intuitive finger-print sensor power buttonvi, to the new live wallpaper that moves the elegant loops as you swipe, to the colours you see on screen that reflect true-life colour.”
When it comes to the camera specifically, Sony are claiming that the new Xperia is their best effort yet.
According to them, “additional improvements have been made inside Motion Eye to the Bionz for mobile processing engine, meaning it detects moving objects more precisely to enable Predictive Capture. Clarity, detail, and texture are also improved to give exceptional image quality thanks to the redesigned G lens with high optical clarity.”
“Xperia XZ Premium is our most technologically capable smartphone ever and we’re thrilled that the product will be ranged across all Australian carriers, major retailer JB Hi-Fi, as well as direct through Sony,” said John Featherstone, Managing Director of Sony Mobile Oceania.
“Perfectly suited to the Australian way of life and our love of photography, the new Motion Eye camera technology has once again proven that Sony Mobile is at the forefront of smartphone technology. From 960fps Super slow motion playback, Predictive capture, to 4K HDR display; we are proud to introduce many world first hero features. With the Xperia XZ Premium, we offer our users a truly unique and personalised experience like no other.”
The Xperia XZ Premium will be available both through carriers (Optus, Vodafone, Virgin, Telstra) and retailer JB Hi-Fi from the 23rd of June.
Unless you opt for a post-paid plan, the device will come in at an RRP of $1099.
It’ll also be available for purchase through Sony directly.
