Sony has announced that its PS3 Motion Controller, originally planned for a Q2 2010 release, will now be released in Q4, delaying it by six months.
Delaying the release of the Motion Controller will lose Sony its lead in the motion-control battle with Microsoft’s Project Natal controller, which is planned for release in time for the 2010 end-of-year holiday season.
However, Sony seems confident that this delay will work to its advantage, claiming that delaying the launch will ensure the company has a comprehensive line-up of games compatible with the device available for launch.
“We have decided to release the Motion Controller in fall 2010 when we will be able to offer an exciting and varied line-up of software titles that will deliver the new entertainment experience to PS3 users,” said Kazuo Hirai, president of Sony Computer Entertainment.
