Sony, which is looking to cut the cost of its overpriced Vaio netbooks, has turned to the Chunghwa Picture Tubes Company in China to supply new low-cost display screens as opposed to using components made in Japan.
Under the new manufacturing agreement, PTC in China will supply Sony with high-resolution 8-inch widescreen LCD panels for Sony’s VAIO P netbook at prices cheaper than its current display screens.

The new panel has a resolution of 1600×768, which is higher than regular netbook panels, which normally have a resolution of 1024×600.
This will allow Sony to maintain its high netbook margins while cutting component costs say analysts.

According to DigiTimes in Taiwan, Sony is anticipating that it will sell 50,000 netbooks a month, according to market sources.
