Sony’s flagship Xperia Arc may have been rockin’ superior aesthetics but lacked the processing power of its HTC and Samsung rivals, making it as useful as a pair of painfully fashionable high heels. But the phone is hitting back in a revamped Arc S model, with an enhanced processor and a camera capable of capturing 3D pictures.

The UK Telegraph reports the new Xperia Arc S will be powered by a 1.4GHz processor that is 25 per cent more powerful than its predecessor.
Although the original Arc wasn’t slow, it’ll need the extra processing power to capture 3D photos with its 8.1MP camera.
Phones like the HTC Evo 3D and LG Optimus 3D use two cameras simultaneously to capture 3D photos, adding unattractive weight and size to their design. Unlike its rivals the reworked Arc S uses its single camera to capture several photos simultaneously and then stitches them together, the same way the company’s panorama images are captured.
The camera is one of the Arc’s strong points, featuring an Exmor R sensor that filters light in dark areas to capture crisp and colourful images, which are then viewed on its 4.2 inch Bravia screen.
Although the screen is great, it’s not capable of displaying the 3D images snapped, requiring a 3D capable TV for that.
The Arc S runs Google Android’s 2.3 gingerbread OS, customised with Sony enhancements, the likes of Timescape and an application that enables it to double as a remote control for Bravia televisions.
The Arc S will be available in 5 colours, including white, blue, black silver and pink, but Australian release dates haven’t been made available yet.
