The HD video feature is claimed to be a first for any binoculars on the market. The digi-binoculars can also record 3D video footage for playback on a 3D Bravia TV, with a maximum magnification of 5.4 times in 3D mode.
Unlike traditional binoculars the electronic autofocus keeps the subject sharply in focus even while moving. The DEV-5 also focuses cleanly on subjects as close as 1cm away, meaning it can magnify close-up, Sony says.
The binoculars are selling for a recommended $1999.
