With tablet sales slumping and several brands slashing costs Sony has decided to stick to premium pricing with their new range of Android tablets.
Later this week Sony will launch its Xperia Z2 Android tablet with prices mirroring Apple’s iPad Air.
The Xperia Z2 10.1in tablet has a full HD (1920×1080) resolution screen, and features a 2.3GHz quad-core CPU, 3GB of RAM and flash storage up to 32GB. the 16GB Wi-Fi-only variant has a recommended price tag of $599.
It is claimed to be have the ability to survive the occasional submersion in water, able to survive depths of up to one metre for up to 30 minutes. Despite having a slightly larger screen, the Xperia Z2 Tablet is said to be 43g lighter than an Apple iPad Air (426g for the Z2 versus 469g for the Air).
Three versions of the Xperia Z2 Tablet will be sold in Australia: a 16GB Wi-Fi-only model in black; a 32GB Wi-Fi-only version in black; and a 32GB 4G model in black-and-white. They will be priced at $599, $699 and $749 respectively.
