Australian virtual reality fans looking to set up a VR system following next week’s international launch of the Sony PlayStation VR system will need to invest between $500 and $1000, according to figures advanced by Sony Computer Entertainment A/NZ MD Michael Ephraim.
The new VR headset is headed for global release on Thursday, October 13 and is expected to be a big seller. Some Australian stores are expected to remain open after midnight.
Players who already own a PlayStation 4 games console will need to outlay $549.95 for the new VR headset – plus $89 if they don’t already own a PS4 camera.
If they don’t own a PS4, they will need to ante up about $1000 for a complete set-up, Ephraim says. And opening-day models are already a sellout Down Under: but kits can be ordered for delivery before Christmas.
About 25 to 30 games are expected to be available at launch with this set to rise to 50 by year’s end.
