The new 3.0 software upgrade is designed to improve navigation while improving the look and feel of the console interface. It also included are new ways to buy Sony goods and merchandise directly with the introduction of new links to a Sony Playstation store.
Long-term Sony has admitted that they intend to bypass retailers and partners to sell content and gaming products directly. Among the products that consumers will be able to buy are HD movies, music and games for a new PSP which is due shortly.
SCE has also launched a new payment service that allows consumers without a credit card to purchase Playstation voucher cards in denominations of $30 and $50.
Earlier today Sony announced a new $499 Sony PS3 console with 120Gb of storage.
