Sony who is fighting to get back into the Smartphone market has developed new touch screen technology that measures the pressure applied to a screen
In a demonstration at the Sony Computer Science Laboratories the Japanese Company showed a touch panel that can generate tactile feedback and detect the amount of pressure applied to the panel.
According to TECHON, the new technology can not only detect not only the x and y coordinates of a fingertip but also the pressure applied in the direction of the z-axis.
They said that during a demonstration the speed of switching icons displayed on the screen was changed by changing the pressure applied to the panel. As the pressure became stronger, the icons were switched faster.
