Sony Computer Entertainment is set to launch an expensive new 250GB Sony PS3 in an attempt to grab back market share lost to the Xbox 360 and the highly popular Nintendo Wii.

Sony Computer Entertainment is set to launch an expensive new 250GB Sony PS3 in an attempt to grab back market share lost to the Xbox 360 and the highly popular Nintendo Wii.

According to SCE Australia they have shipped 40,000 units of their new slim PS3 in the first two and a half weeks however GFK sales data which tracks actual sales by retailers has still not been officially released.

The $30 million dollars worth of sales achieved during the past 18 days are expected to continue, as Nintendo and Microsoft offers additional games with their consoles.

Currently the new $499, 120GB PS3 is still the most expensive gaming console when compared with the $399 Nintendo Wii and the 120GB, $414 Xbox 360 Elite.

The new 250GB PS3, will retail for $599 making it one of the most expensive gaming consoles in the world. It will be released on 15 October 2009, with a range of game bundles.
