Sony is set to take on the Sonos wireless multi room music system in a move that could force Sonos to sell through selected mass retailers. The Sony system which is expected to go on sale in Australia for around $599 by the end of the year it is also cheaper that the Sonos System. Sony also claim that the device can be set up easily by a user without any third party installation.
Currently sold exclusively through specialist installers the Sonos system will come up against the new Sony S-Airplay system that uses S-Air technology which allows music to be played from room to room from one source. The device is also able to transmit sound to plug-and-play compact speakers from an iPod, iTune or iPhone to up to 10 speakers.
The new Sony device that will be sold in the likes of Harvey Norman and JB Hi Fi has dual source, multi-zone distribution and that will allow users to transmit separate signals to each AIR-SA15R receiver/speaker. This means you could have an AM/FM radio station playing in the kitchen, while your iPod music players on another speaker in the living room.
The composite audio/video out connection will let you display video content that’s on your iPod, onto your large screen TV. This Dock to a television will let you see the bigger picture much easier; you can also connect the dock to a home theater receiver.
