In a bid to regain losses in its marketshare, Sony Ericsson is bringing its Qriocity buy or rent video service to its mobile phones.
According to intomobile, the phased launch will be limited to Sony Ericsson’s Xperia range and will give users the freedom to rent or purchase movies/TV shows from a large range of high end production companies.

Certainly not shy of connections, Sony Ericsson have paired up with NBC, Universal, Paramount Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox, Warner Brothers, Sony Pictures (go figure) and a variety of local studios. The libraries will include some of the latest releases and an extensive back catalogue.
From launch, the video service will be available on two devices, Sony’s Xperia mini and Xperia mini pro. However, the company promises to increase the range, making the software available via an update on its Arc, Play, Neo, Pro and Acro Xperia phones. The yet to be launched Xperia Active and Ray will come with the Qriocity client preinstalled.
The rollout phase is set to commence on August 1st with 9 countries lined up, including Australia. The others include the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Japan, Canada and the US.
