As tipped by Smarthouse earlier this week UK based music streaming service Spotify is planning to launch in Australia, following the appointment of former Google Australia exec Kate Vale as its A/NZ sales director.
According to Vale’s LinkedIn profile she has held the position for a month.
Vale left Google in October last year along with developer Lars Rasmussen, co-founder of Google Maps and the controversial, and now defunct, Wave.
Spotify, currently available in the US, UK and six European countries, offers customers unlimited access to a catalogue of 15 million songs from EMI, Sony, Universal and Warner Music. It charges US$4.99 a month to listen on personal computers or $9.99 for both PCs and mobile devices.
Establishment of an Australian operation would require separate negotiations with the local arms of these and other organisations.
