Spotify has reignited speculation that its hardware debut isn’t far away, following a new registration with America’s FCC to test wireless devices [grantee – 2AP3D].
As previously reported, many commentators expected the streaming giant to unveil its first smart speaker, or in-car music player at its April press event.
Instead, a suite of software upgrades and new features for ‘free users’ were revealed.
The newly listed company is yet to comment on the FCC registration, with a filing tipped to be published at a later date.
The news further ignites speculation that Spotify will release its own branded smart speaker, to compete with the likes of Amazon, Google and Apple.
Back in February, the streaming giant post a job advertisement for an ‘Operations Manager – Hardware Product’.
