St George Bank customers with the right smartphones will soon be able to use parent company Westpac’s tap-and-pay smartphone system, Westpac has announced.St George said eligible customers will be notified in
their mobile banking app of when they will be able to first set up the feature.
Westpac launched its tap-and-pay system last year, making it initially
available via the Westpac banking app to Samsung handset users – (the system
doesn’t work with Apple phones or other brands at this stage.
Or, as Westpac puts it: “Tap-and-pay is only available to Samsung
smartphone’, which feature the inbuilt secure element (SE), required by the app
for security purposes. The app does not currently support non-SE methods.
“
