A swag of new Ultra High Definition 4K Movies are set to be released in Australia, including Star Wars The Force Awakens tipped to be released in April or May.
What is not known at this stage is which vendors will have new 4K Blu -ray players on sale. Both Samsung, Sony and Panasonic are tipped to be among the first to deliver the new hardware.
The release date of Star Wars: The Force Awakens on DVD and Blu-ray has been revealed due to a stuff up by the Duracell Bunny, well sort of.
While the release date hasn’t been announced yet, a tie-in promotional placard advertising Duracell has revealed it as April 18.
The box art and list of extras have also leaked. Stitch Kingdom claims that they were posted on Walmart’s website in the USA before being yanked. Here’s the supposed cover art.

In other moves to higher quality content, the selection of physical video discs with Dolby Atmos soundtracks grew to 46 yesterday with the release of 12 UHD Blu-ray titles which will be released shortly in Australia. The Atmos selection will grow to 50 next month , Dolby announced.
Three more Blu-ray titles and one more UHD Blu-ray title will be released later this month with Atmos, Dolby said.
The 12 UHD Blu-ray titles released March 1 with Atmos are from Sony, Warner Bros. and Lionsgate. They include “Mad Max: Fury Road,” “Sicario” and “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.”
Coming later this month on regular Blu-ray are Warner’s “In the Heart of the Sea,” HBO’s “Game of Thrones Season 5” and Lionsgate’s “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2.”
Also in March, Sony’s “Concussion” will appear on UHD Blu-ray. It is Sony’s first non-catalog UHD title with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack.
A total of 14 titles are available with Atmos via the Vudu streaming service, the company noted. Seven are not available on disc.
With Atmos object-based surround, individual sounds can be placed anywhere in a three-dimensional space, including above listeners. The technology also delivers smoother panning of individual sounds around listeners.
