Sony Australia has admitted that “sweat” coming into contact with a Sony Walkman is a problem to the extent that the company is now offering to replace problem players.
The problem is not good news for the struggling consumer electronics company who is struggling to make headway with their overpriced Walkman players up against the popular iPod from Apple.
In an announcement on the Sony Australia web site Sony say “It has come to our attention that, a limited number of Walkman NWZ-W202 players may experience performance issues following exposure to sweat due to sports or outdoor use”.
While the device is not designed to be splash proof or water resistant, we have implemented additional safeguards to reduce the effect of sweat on the players.
Sony Australia go on to say that if a consumer has purchased a Walkman NWZ-W202 player and feel the device has been affected by this issue, please contact your local Sony service centre.
If the service centre confirms that your unit is experiencing symptoms related to this issue, Sony will replace, free of charge, the affected Walkman player within the applicable serial number range, until 30 June 2011.
