Optus’ biggest third party dealer TeleChoice said it acknowledges the telco’s statement yesterday, announcing it will cease its contract with the retail network from March 2013.

The Optus and Virgin only dealers with 155 stores has been in operation since 1995.

TeleChoice CEO Ehab Abdou said he recognizes the industry is dynamic and considers it timely to explore a myriad of opportunities for the future, in a statement late yesterday.

Abdou said that he would update TeleChoice stakeholders as the preferred options progress.

Optus also said it would open 33 new Optus stores nationally as it seeks to rationalize its retail channel and strengthen the telco brand.

“Retail is no longer just a sales channel – it’s a channel where customers come to better understand technology and how to get the most from it.” Optus Managing Director, Sales, Rohan Ganeson, said yesterday.

TeleChoice is the largest independently owned mobile telco retailer in Oz.

Its 155 outlets are a mix of franchised and company owned operations.
