Handset features include:
Touch-screen technology – Play back videos and navigate through the mobile web with the touch of a finger.
Music – An MP3 player, stereo headphones and 50MBs of memory (expandable to 8GB with the purchase of a MicroSD card) allow customers to leave their standalone music players at home. There’s also a music recognition feature that samples a song, identifies it and then automatically provides a link to it in the BigPond Music store catalogue.
Smart unlock – Unique feature that lets customers associate a letter of the alphabet to a range of common functions like accessing the contacts screen or the web browser. Tracing the letter on the touch-screen unlocks the mobile and takes the user directly to that function.
Fast mobile internet access – With a connection to Telstra’s Next G network, customers get a high-speed data experience with typical download speeds of 550kbps to 3 Mbps. Users can download large files, stream content and surf the web effortlessly.
Exclusive content – Customers can subscribe to advanced mobile content and applications including BigPond TV, 31 channels on Mobile FOXTEL from Telstra plus access to the latest news, weather and sports reports. Exclusive mobile content includes BigPond’s Celebrity + Fashion mobile portal, a one stop shop for celebrity and fashion news and interviews.

Telstra Product Management Executive Director, Ross Fielding, said:
“The Preston Icon makes the perfect multimedia companion. Its in-built MP3 and video players, 3.2 megapixel camera with flash and 50MB of internal memory which is expandable up to 8GB offers an excellent music and photo experience. The Preston Icon also includes a neat unlock feature that plays to its touch screen strengths. Customers can associate a letter of the alphabet to a range of common functions like accessing the contacts screen or launching the web browser. Trace this letter on the screen and the mobile unlocks itself and takes the user directly to that function.”
Pricing and availability: The Samsung Preston Icon is available for $0 upfront on a $30, or higher, Telstra phone plan. Handset RRP is $499 outright.
