Telstra will launch the first pre-paid mobiles on its Next G network tomorrow. The company will stop selling CDMA pre-paid handsets as of Thursday as well.

“Telstra’s Next G network offers superior speeds, coverage and content and is proving a popular replacement for the aging CDMA network, which is scheduled to close in January next year,” said Telstra’s Tim Copper.

Telstra says that as over half of all Australian mobile phone users are connected to pre-paid mobiles, this offer is likely to attract more customers onto its Next G network.

“Covering 98.8 per cent of the population and more than 100 times bigger geographically than any other 3G network in Australia, the voice quality, in building coverage and advanced features of the Next G network mean our CDMA pre-paid customers can make the move to the new network with confidence,” Copper said.

From Thursday, Next G pre-paid customers can access 16 channels of FOXTEL by Mobile, BigPond Mobile content as well as email access and Sensis search services, Telstra says.

There will be two Next G pre-paid handsets on launch including an LG model and a Telstra model. But Telstra says the number and range of phones will increase in the months ahead.

In terms of content prices, you can choose from one of five Browse Plus Packs, which start at $5.

RRP:
LG TU500 – $299
Telstra 256 – $249
