A Scandinavian mobile carrier has beaten Telstra to the title of first with an 84 megabits per second mobile network. The 3 Scandinavia network says its chosen Ericsson to supply the 84Mbps HSPA net.
The move comes just one month after Telstra claimed its Next G HSPA network would be the world’s first with the 42Mbps technology and said it was working on an early upgrade to 84Mbps.
Telstra, like 3 Scandinavia, uses Ericsson technology.
The three-year contract between Ericsson and 3 includes the “HSPA Evolution” upgrade of its existing 3G network to 84-Mbps plus a new WCDMA/HSPA radio access network on the 900-MHz frequency band.
Ericsson is also providing an IP-based optical and microwave backhaul, and support services.
