Telstra says it will have five new LTE devices available for use in the 700MHz band in coming months. The band is set to open for service in January next year.
Telstra bought its 700MHz spectrum, part of the “digital dividend” after TV interests vacated the spectrum, at auction last year, and claims it will offer coverage, fewer dead-spots and fewer dropouts.
Its five devices are HTC and Samsung smartphones; Netgear and ZTE Wi-Fi dongles; and a “Wi-Fi 4G Advanced Pr X” device from Huawei able to handle up to 10 connected Wi-Fi devices at a time and capable of am theoretical 300Mbps.
All will be available in the next few months, well ahead of the January 700MHz start-up, Telstra execs say.
