The new Telstra Turbo 7 Series Wireless Gateway, which was developed in conjunction with NetComm is designed to combine three capabilities in one device – a Next G mobile broadband connection, a secure Wi-Fi gateway and Ethernet connectivity.

Telstra Business Group Managing Director, Deena Shiff, said gateways could “be set up as needed for any temporary business requirement, for example at special events including roadshows, trade shows and festivals, or act as a crucial back-up for fixed line connections, allowing businesses to use their IT and operating systems anywhere there’s power and coverage”.

“Businesses can now take the network with them on customer visits, to trade and community events, or to temporary work locations like construction sites away from head office. This new device provides a cost effective and versatile way to overcome the need for fixed lines, such as at roadshows.

“The wireless gateway means businesses have access to a portable office-in-a-box solution that can boost productivity by sharing files, operating EFTPOS, accessing company intranet and databases and delivering services and products direct to the customer,” Shiff said.

Telstra says that the Gateway has a “two million square kilometre-plus footprint delivering typical download speeds of 550 kbps to 3 Mbps, bursting to speeds of 6 Mbps in selected areas. It also delivers enhanced upload speeds averaging 300kbps to 1Mbps, bursting up to 1.3Mbps”.

According to NetComm GM Danny Morrison, “The gateway was developed exclusively for the Telstra Next G network and is the culmination of more than six months of NetComm development and innovation, working closely with Telstra to ensure a seamless end user experience”.

Telstra says that BigPond will also soon introduce a SOHO variant of the device – the BigPond 7.2 Wireless Broadband Home Network Gateway for families and households to network their homes and share access to the internet across digital devices.

Telstra says the modem is $529 outright or can be purchased on Telstra’s Mobile Repayment Option.
