MELBOURNE – Telstra has warned its customers about a phishing scam that is being e-mailed under the guise of the telco’s services bills.
Some Telstra customers have reported that the e-mail promised a PDF file of the bill, but instead attached a zip file that contained an executable.
It also had a fake account number, but carried significant Telstra branding and links that appeared to go to legitimate Telstra URLs, according to an ITnews report.
Timing of the scam mailout is said to have coincided with a legitimate marketing e-mail from Telstra urging customers to switch to electronic billing.
Telstra is now urging users who have received suspicious billing e-mails to go to their My Account page, and not click on any links in e-mails they believed may be fake.
