The most pirated movies in 20111 have been identified with the car-racing sequel starring Vin Diesel and Paul Walker in Fast Five proving the most popular. Ironically very few 3D movies were pirated.
This was followed by the following movies.
1. Fast Five – 9.2m downloads
2. The Hangover II – 8.8m downloads
3. Thor – 8.3m downloads
4. Source Code – 7.9m downloads

7. 127 Hours – 6.9m downloads
8. Rango – 6.4m downloads
9. The King’s Speech – 6.2m downloads
10. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 – 6m downloads

The results, when cross-referenced with this year’s global box-office top 10, seem to confirm that 3D films tend to be those filmgoers prefer to see at the cinema rather than downloading illegally.
None of the pirated top five are among the top five films in terms of receipts in 2011, the majority of which were released in 3D. These were: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 ($1.3m), Transformers: Dark of the Moon ($1.1m), Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides ($1.03m), Kung Fu Panda 2 ($665.7m) and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 ($653.7m).
Torrent Freak collected the data for the list from thousands of BitTorrent trackers, as well as other sources, but the results do not take into account films which were illegally streamed rather than downloaded. The overall number of downloads was lower than in 2010, suggesting that people may be switching to increasingly available legal alternatives such as LoveFilm, YouTube and Netflix.
