According to the company, Joanne and Alanah decided to call it quits and head to bed at 6:00 am (17 June 2010), thereby setting a new record of 87 hours.
This now needs to be verified by Guinness officials, however organisers of the event, which took place at Star City’s Sports Theatre, are confident that all is above board and this record will be recognised.
Topfield’s Marketing Manager, Robert Bonanno said, “To have both sisters break the record is a double whammy and we are very proud and elated for the girls and their family who were there for much of the time to provide support and lollies. We now wish the Socceroos similar good fortune in their ongoing World Cup quest.”
A combined pool of $10,000 of participation prizes were offered as well as a chance for the successful record breaker to play soccer legend and former Socceroo, Steve Corica in a private, high-adrenaline computer soccer game shootout.
