A brand new range of lightweight tablets that come with Gorilla Glass screens along with a new 14″ Ultrabook is set to be launched by Toshiba Australia shortly. The new Toshiba X10 tablet is the thinnest device in the world at just 7.7mm; it weighs in at 535g and is set to put pressure on several Android tablet vendors in Australia.

A first look by SmartHouse had us convinced that this is one of the best tablets we have seen at the CES show in Las Vegas. The tablet has a 10.1 inch Corning Gorilla Glass display and is powered by the Texas Instruments OMAP 1.2 GHz 4430 processor and comes with a 1GB RAM.

The X10 also has a 5MP camera with LED flash and a 2MP front facing camera.

The first thing you notice is the weight; it’s extremely light when compared to an iPad. Set to run Android 4.0 it also has a microSD card slot, micro USB support and micro HDMI ports. The X10 also supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1.

The new tablet is set to be available in Australia with the 32GB version costing around $599.

The specs of the machine are that it runs on a 1.3 GHz Corei3 processor and 4GB of RAM. It has been endowed by Toshiba with a 128GB SSD drive.

Also on show at CES is the new Toshiba 14″ Ultrabook that I saw running Windows 8.

Toshiba would not say which graphics processor they were using, as there appears to be a significant improvement in the display quality of the screen when compared with the current model Toshiba Ultrabook.

Also on show at their stand was a HDTV that delivered high quality 3D without glass. A Toshiba Japan executive said that the company was extremely close to delivering an on sale version.

The new 3D TV which relies on facial recognition is capable of tracking nine pairs of eyes at once while adjusting the 3D angles to fit all nine persons watching the TV.

Toshiba has also revealed a neat new USB 3.0, 15.6-inch portable monitor that is ideal to use with a tablet or small notebook.

It has a 1,366 X 768 resolution screen which is the same as a standard notebook screen. Lightweight the monitor comes with a case to protect the screen while you’re traveling.
