Toshiba have introduced a brand new smartphone which they claim is “good enough” to genuinely take on take on the Apple iPhone. The new TG01 will be shown for the first time at the World Mobile Congress in Barcelona later this month.
The device which is only a centimetre thick has a 4.1-inch touchscreen with W-VGA resolution and incorporates a Qualcomm’s 1GHz Snapdragon chip which Toshiba claims will make it the fastest phone in the world.
Like HTC Toshiba has built their own 3D software interface that sits on top of a Windows Mobile 6.1 Operating System.
Toshiba will not be using an accelerometer as in the iPhone or the Storm. Instead, it will be implementing what it calls a G-Sensor which “allows you to tilt the phone around a central spot”; the user can answer or finish a call by shaking the phone.
Other features include a microSD card reader capable of supporting up to 32GB cards, 512MB memory and features some of Toshiba’s HDTV properties (AKA the Regza range) including color matching, dynamic gamma correction and LCD backlight control.
The device will be available in both black and white versions.
