Toshiba Australia is set to enter the storage market with a range of new drives that will take on offerings from the likes of Seagate, Iomega and Western Digital.

Each has a function that lets users set up automatic backups in the preloaded Windows-based NTI BackupNow EZ software. Each device has a USB 2.0 connection that also powers the drives, along with an internal shock sensor and anti-slip rubberized side grip.
The lineup is certified to work with Windows XP, Vista and 7, though can be reformatted to work with Mac OS X as well.
The 5,400RPM drives are made with backing up in mind, as the software can automatically find movies, photos and music to back up, restore files or folders, and copies everything on a user’s hard drive. Backup preferences and schedules can be customized, while a disaster recovery mode lets users restore their system and boot from the drives.
Other capacities of the Canvio range include 500GB, 640GB and 750GB and each can be had in a choice of five colors, including black, silver, blue, red and green. Pricing has not been confirmed for Australia.
