Some you will love and others you will hate. Some you agree with and others you will spend your dying breath arguing against. Either way, the Triple J hottest 100 of all time is upon us and it makes for some amazing and somewhat nostalgia driven listening.
Taking the top spot is Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit”. Now, while it was a generation defining track and is definitely deserving of a place in the top 100, it doesn’t quite get my vote for the number one spot.
However, the list was determined by a popularity vote and as such it has won out above the 13,000 other songs in contention, so it gets to reign supreme. It is a list of the hottest 100 songs that matter to the youth of Australia as at June 2009.
The great thing about this album is that whether you agree with a certain songs place on the list or not, each and every song is a memorable part of music history over the last 50 years so this is the perfect “anytime listening” album. There isn’t a single song on the list that isn’t great to listen to. This is an album you will put on while at work, at a party or even as background music while trudging through the household chores.
The package is comprised of only two CDs and as such not every song on the top 100 is included unfortunately. Of the 34 tracks included, the songs are from all over the list and include some iconic tracks from artists like Jeff Buckley, Hunters and Collectors, Rage Against The Machine, Radiohead and David Bowie to name a few.
