Toshiba Australia is set to expand their flat panel TV range with new premium high end models. They are also set to launch new digital media frames however there is doubt as to whether they will launch a new Toshiba Smartphone into the Australian market.

The company, who yesterday launched several new notebooks and netbooks, has said that they are confident that the new Toshiba range of TV’s which will be launched later this year will be successful due to the incorporation of new energy efficient technology. Some models will also have built in DVD players.

Among the new models will be a flagship 1080p Cinema Series in 46-inch and 55-inch screen sizes.

The  models will feature 1920 x 1080p resolution, LED backlighting with local dimming, 200hz frame rate technology, Dolby Volume, and Toshiba’s new PixelPure5G processor for up scaling of 480i, 480p and 720p content.

The new models will also be energy star compliant and come equipped with plenty of connectivity options including four HDMI v1.3 inputs, USB port, SD card slot, IR pass-through and PC input.

Justin White, Product Marketing Manager at Toshiba Information Systems said “We have had a lot of success in the smaller sized market and later this year we will launch our new premium models. We will also expand our smaller sized offerings with some new model’s incorporating DVD players. These are proving extremely popular”.

White also said that Toshiba will enter the digital picture frame market with a range of new offerings.

Among the range will be 10-inch and two 8-inch Digital Media Frames which via a partnership with FrameChannel, will give consumers access to more than 1,000 channels of personalised content, such as news, weather, sports, and financial data as well as photo-sharing sites, social networks, and RSS feeds.

White said “In the notebook market we cannot keep up with demand. We are currently hustling Japan to give us more stock for the Australian market. 70% of the notebook market is now via retailers and we are seeing a big attach rate by consumers who are buying a notebook and a monitor or TV for use with the notebook”.

On the question of whether Toshiba will launch their Smartphone in Australia he said “This is hard, we have no plans at this stage as one needs a strong carrier relationship. The market is highly competitive and I am not sure if a phone from a notebook maker from the likes of Toshiba or Acer will work as there is a lot of competition out there from phone makers like Apple, HTC etc”.

It is also tipped that late in 2010 that Toshiba in partnership with Panasonic will launch new OLED display screens in both notebooks and a new 32″ TV.
