The all-digital CES 2021 will take place in January, featuring a kick-off keynote from Verizon Chairman and CEO Hans Vestberg.
The consumer tech expo was forced to move online for 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with speculation reported on ChannelNews earlier this year that the physical 2020 show was a “super-spreader” event. CES 2021 will open exclusively for media on January 11, then to all registered attendees from January 12-14. The 12th and 13th will feature the virtual exhibition showcase and conference programming, and the conference programming will continue to the 14th.
According to Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of CES owner the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), the all-digital format will connect attendees from around the world,
“CES 2021 will digitally convene innovators and business leaders from around the world showcasing tech changing lives for the better on a global scale.
“Technology is not only connecting us to one another, but is providing solutions to many day-to-day challenges created by the pandemic and that innovation is helping us reimagine CES 2021,” he said.
Hans Vestberg, who is set to deliver the keynote, says it will cover 5G as “the framework of the 21st century” and address its potential for telehealth, tele-education, and other applications.
“Verizon’s keynote for CES will demonstrate the vital role that mobility, broadband and cloud — or the world’s 21st century infrastructure — has played in connecting the world this year and how the accelerated shift to 5G is transforming every industry.
“This time in history is redefining the meaning of connectivity for consumers, industries and society as a whole — imagination is our only threshold,” he said.
Registration for CES 2021 is set to open in spring.
