Vodafail is back and tens of thousands of Vodafone customers have been left without a data connection.
Known for their spectacular network failures Vodafone is still trying to work out what happened to their network with thousands of customers left unable to make calls, text or use the internet. At this stage they are saying that it is “A router” issue. This is the same excuse originally used by Telstra when their network failed.
It’s understood the outage lasted about seven hours in total, with the ‘Vodafail’ hashtag trending on Twitter, reminiscent of the telco’s widely publicised network issues of 2010, 2011 and 2012.
News Corporation reported that the issue knocked out 4G services and while some users were able to connect to Vodafone’s 2G and 3G networks, congestion meant that some users were locked out completely.
The spokeswoman said services were affected from about 6.30pm.
“At around 6.30pm yesterday, we experienced an issue which impacted part of our network, resulting in intermittent disruption to voice, text and data services,” she said in a statement.
“We thank our customers for their patience and apologise for the inconvenience caused.”
It’s unknown how many users were affected in total.
Some users are calling for a ‘free data day’ as compensation.
Vodafone’s past ‘Vodafail’ outages saw its subscriber base fall from 7.5 million in 2010 to 5 million.
