Voda is looking to recover after thousands of users deserted late last year amid a rash of network problems, including outages, dropped calls and slow data speeds that saw CEO Nigel Dews issue a formal apology to customers. It also saw affected users bitterly venting their anger in a Web site called ‘Vodafail’.
Now vodafone reckons it’s on the comeback trail after spending millions on a network upgrade. “Coverage and customer experience improvements are well advanced and investment in the network remains1 our highest priority,” said CTO Michael Young.
In February, Vodafone announced plans to accelerate network improvements, including building a new 850MHz network, upgrading its current 3G network and adding new sites to improve coverage and capacity. By the end of the year it claims an additional 520 sites will have been upgraded and 500 network sites added.
