Vodafone’s new “weekend freedom initiative” is set to benefit data users along with users making international calls on selected prepaid caps, with the telco today announcing the trial. The initiative will see Vodafone remove all data charges and standard international call charges to its five most popular overseas destinations – China, the UK, the US, India and New Zealand – on weekends until April 26 for prepaid $30, $40 and $50 cap customers.
It follows Vodafone’s launch of Data Workout last year, providing postpaid customers with two months of unlimited data usage, with Vodafone stating it wants to encourage its prepaid customers “to boost their data awareness”.
“We want to empower our prepaid cap customers to gain more confidence about their data use while having some fun doing the things they love to do on their smartphones,” commented Vodafone’s new chief marketing officer Loo Fun Chee.
“Last year our free data and international calling weekends saw our customers break usage records. They really showed us how much these services are a big, huge passion point for them.”
The trial begins this weekend, with customers on the selected caps to not be charged for data used in Australia and calls made to the five international destinations from 12am Saturday until 11.59pm Sunday, wherever they are in Australia.
