After Telstra forked out millions to get the Live TV rights to NRL & AFL football, Optus and now Vodafone are set to deliver the same live TV coveraghe without paying a cent.
Both Optus and Vodaphone are streaming free to air TV as a service to customers by delaying the coverage by minutes. Currently Optus is waiting on a Federal Court decision after Telstra and the NRL took them to Court claiming that their TV Now service was in breach of the rights given to Telstra.
Optus stands accused of breaching the Australian Football League and National Rugby League copyright on matches by giving customers an opportunity to watch matches put to air on the Seven in near-live conditions.
”We are always interested in offering our customers innovative services to help them make the most of their mobility devices [smartphone, tablets, mobile broadband] and mobile lifestyles, and will continue to explore rich media services that showcase our new Vodafone network,” said Greg Spears a Vodafone spokesman.
