Vodafone and Qantas have teamed up, with the telco launching new 24 month Qantas Red plans, under which Qantas Frequent Flyers can earn Qantas Points.Vodafone has today also announced that its Red customers who travel to New Zealand will have free $5 Roaming, allowing customers with $5 Roaming on Red plans to “roam like home”, with no extra charge for roaming until December 1, 2016.

Under the Qantas partnership, Qantas Frequent Flyers will be able earn up to 15,000 Qantas Points by connecting, renewing or upgrading online to a new 24 month Qantas Red plan, with the plans ranging from a $45 per month SIM-only plan to a $130 per month plan with a new phone.

Businesses that are members of Qantas’s business rewards program Aquire will also be able to earn Aquire Points when signing up to Qantas Business Red plans.

Double points are on offer for Qantas Frequent Flyer members and Aquire members who sign up, renew or upgrade online rather than in store.

“The opportunity to earn Qantas Points, which can be redeemed on travel, shopping and a host of other exciting offerings, gives consumers another reason to choose Vodafone and rewards our existing customers for their loyalty,” Vodafone director of sales Ben McIntosh commented of the new plans.

Qantas Loyalty CEO Lesley Grant stated that customers who use their Qantas Points-earning credit card to pay for their phone plan can also earn points on their card at the same time.

“Businesses like Vodafone partner with Qantas Frequent Flyer because they know that for the millions of Australians who are Qantas Frequent Flyers, they decide what to buy based on whether they can earn Qantas Points or not,” Grant commented.

“In a competitive market, being able to reward customers for choosing their product or service and remaining loyal to their brand is an attractive proposition.”

Meanwhile, Vodafone chief marketing officer Loo Fun Chee stated New Zealand was an obvious choice for Vodafone to trial its evolved $5 Roaming product, under which customers can use their normal mobile phone plan in over 50 selected countries.

“Today I am pleased to announce that Vodafone Australia is strengthening its ties to New Zealand by opening its ‘network borders’ to include New Zealand,” Chee commented.
