A few days ago Apple sent out an invite to a media event the company is hosting. The invitation depicted an iPad screen and seduced the tech industry with the following words: We have something you really have to see. And touch. The magical date is set for March 7th.
The news spread like wildfire, spurring people who have an iPad to sell it on eBay, hoping to offload the old one and pick up a new iPad 3.
In fact, according to eBay more than 125,000 tablet trade-ins have been orchestrated this month, with 122,000 (97.6%) of them iPads. These figures are ten times greater than what they were the same time last year.
These stats pertain to the site’s Instant Sales program, in which eBay (and AllTechWholesale) offers quick cash for a trade in item. Although they trade in a variety of electronics, the vast majority are mainly Apple iPads, iPhones and iPods.
The site asks only four questions and generates a quote within seconds. eBay is offering up to $410 for an Apple iPad 2 (3G+WiFi), provided its fully functional, comes with the power adaptor and works. eBay will also cover the cost of shipping and will ensure your data is wiped off.
