Printers are essential in any home or office as it can print your documents on the fly. And while there are a lot of printers to choose from (some going as low as $50), there will always be a product that can do more than just ‘print.’ The new Lexmark printer is just that – it is a 3-in-1 printer that connects to your wireless network so you can print anywhere.

The X4650 can copy documents, scan photos, and print photos or documents. It comes with a PictBridge port for instant printing and has two memory card slots that can read SD, Memory Stick, xD, MMC, CF, and MD cards.
The power, copy, scan, photo, start, colour/black, cancel, setup, left and right, OK, and back buttons are found on top of the printer, along with a monochrome LCD that displays the function and setting options.

The Scan function will automatically save files to a connected USB flash drive or Memory Card, or directly save it to the computer using any compatible (and available) software like Photoshop, Illustrator, or Paint. It also saves scanned files as JPEG file without having to use any software and can even be sent to anyone via an e-mail attachment automatically.
Scanned images are accurate if you adjust the DPI to the highest setting (600dpi), but fails to deliver sharp photos when set to its automatic mode. The printer does not have problems scanning documents though, allowing users to use the Scan and Edit Text (OCR) function to convert printed materials to digital files.

The X4650 was able to print around 12 pages of text documents (set to draft mode) or around 6 pages (set to normal mode) per minute. A4 photos printed in normal mode took 73 seconds, while it took the printer close to 135 seconds to print the same photo in ‘best’ mode. This slow printing speed may turn some users off, since a lot of users want their prints to be done as soon as possible.
While the Lexmark X4650 is not as good as other multifunction printers out in the market, it is still a worthy addition to any home office as it can print wirelessly. Cartridges will cost $27.96 (Black) and $30.95 (Colour), with users being able to purchase a “High Yield” cartridge that prints twice as much for $34.95 (Black) and $41.95 (Colour). The X4650 has an RRP of $169 and is available now.
