Wii Music from Nintendo appears to be heading for the flop basket after it failed to make the top 10 in the USA. The video game went on sale in Australia last week.
In it’s first 11 days in the US the product failed to impress achieving less than 81,000 units according to figures from NPD Group.
According to DigitalSpy the much-hyped title sold a fraction of its nontraditional predecessor Wii Fit, which racked up sales of 687,700 units over a similar time period in April. The saturation of the rhythm genre with titles like Guitar Hero and Rock Band, coupled with the fact that Wii Music did not come bundled with hardware, have been cited as reasons for the game’s modest sales.
However, Nintendo remained upbeat, with executive VP of sales and marketing Cammie Dunaway telling MTV: “We’re predicting that it’s going to be an evergreen title.
“And if you look at titles like Brain Age, it’s about the same as what Brain Age did during it’s first few weeks and went on to sell 2.5 million copies.
“Wii Fit certainly had a larger launch than that. But I think that people are starting to understand Wii Music.”
