However, its makers Nintendo have been extremely coy on specs and details, just revealing this week it will be on show to the public at the E3 show to be held from June 7 in Los Angeles.
So, will it be any different to the original?
It will be a “new framework for a game system to be enjoyed at home,” President Satoru Iwata insisted on Tuesday.
“The specifications are to be revealed at the show. I am afraid I can’t say anything specific here today.”
Ok, so what might the Wii 2 bring? Well online rumours are raging and having trawled through a few, here are some possibilities:
If realised, this would represent a massive jump from the original, making the need for a TV screen for the console redundant.
Another tip from Game Informer is that it will top rivals X Box 360 and PS3 in terms of power, and capable of 1080p resolutions.
Other industry sources insist it will be different and “not a gimmick like the Wii. Nintendo is doing this one right.”
This comes as the gaming giant reports a 66 percent plunge in profits earlier this week.
However, other games on Nintendo’s to do list are Pandora’s Tower, to be released on May 26, and it seems the giant are going hell for leather on new Wii titles to hold gamers’ interest, with releases every month until the end of this year, according to Iwata.
Wii Play: Motion, also known as Remote Plus Variety is alse to be released in July, offering 12 games.
