EXCLUSIVE: A world first combined speaker and mount system is set to be revealed at the 2011 CEDIA show in Sydney this month by an Australian company. The device is described as being ideal for both the home and commercial applications. The new system fits TVs from 32 to 55 inches and includes an expandable mount and an optional 2.1 or 3.1 speaker systems complete with built in subwoofer and amp.
Launched by Sound & Image, the concept of an integrated mount and speaker system has taken several years to develop, according to Carmelo Arena, a director at the Melbourne based company.
“Currently there are patents pending for the system which was developed because there is a need for a smart solution that combines a mount and speakers into one unit which, when attached to a TV, delivers great sound without the need for additional cables. It also allows a TV’s speakers and mounts to be attached to a wall easily”.
The device comes in two models – a 2.1 channel version that retails for $999 and a 3.1 channel version that retails for $1,299.
Both models include a subwoofer, amplifier and speakers as well as dual mid-bass drivers and complementary, silk dome tweeters to provide low distortion and smooth vocal quality, said Audio Solutions executives.
The subwoofer is a proprietary woofer with a combination of high excursion and very shallow overall depth. It is loaded into a patented, acoustic manifold that increases efficiency, reduces distortion, and controls cone motion for high impact, high output bass.
The built in amplifiers deliver 100 watts of power. The 3.1 TV Audio Mount also incorporates SRS Labs digital processing for enveloping seamless, natural surround sound instead of hearing ordinary two-channel audio.
Arena said: “An array of optional mounts will also be offered as a way of making the TV Audio mount suitable for many homes and other uses. These will include a desktop stand, swivel bracket, ceiling mount and rolling trolley stand that allows a blu ray player to fit underneath the stand”.
