Xbox held the World’s biggest water balloon fight over the weekend, with more than 50 000 h2o bombs thrown, claims Microsoft, which says the amount equals the number of Xbox 360s already sold – a record in itself.
The previously record was held by Spain (2677 attendees). Microsoft claims 2921 franger flingers hit Coogee. A Guinness World Records representitive judged the event and Microsoft soon expects official ratification.
“This was a great chance for us to do something fun for all of those thousands of Australians who helped make the Xbox 360 launch such a success,” said Xbox Australia’s David McLean. “It was a great chance for everyone to jump in and remember the joy and fulfillment that comes from playing games of any kind.”
The event also had a serious side with five dollars from every participant registration fee being donated to the Coogee Surf Lifesaving Club. Around $20 000 was raised help the Club in its ongoing patrol of the famous Sydney beach.
“There is nothing more Australian than coming together to play on the beach. Today’s event was a massive success and the proceeds donated from Xbox will be used to upgrade our life saving training facilities and replacement of critical life saving equipment,” said Coogee Surf Life Saving Club’s Rob Yelon.
