Ahead of E3 2015 in Los Angeles next week, Microsoft has taken the wraps off a bulked up version of its Xbox One, with the new model sporting a 1 TB hard drive.Microsoft’s new Xbox One 1 TB console, bumped up from the current model’s 500 GB, also sports a new matte finish, and will come with a newly designed wireless controller, featuring a 3.5 mm stereo headset jack, allowing users to plug in a gaming headset.
Microsoft states the new controller features improved quality of audio coming through the controller and an increased maximum audio volume, while allowing for the adjustment of headset controls through the console settings menu.
Doubtless, the announcement of more storage space will be welcomed by heavy gamers, with the Xbox One’s on-board storage complemented by the capability to extend game storage by adding an external USB 3.0 drive.
Microsoft has got on the front foot ahead of E3, with it also having been rumoured that Sony is set to unveil a 1 TB version of its PS4 next week. The new Xbox will begin shipping in the US on June 16, the same day E3 kicks off.
The new Xbox carries a price-tag of US$399, with Microsoft reducing the price of the 500 GB model to US$349. Following its US release, Microsoft states the Xbox One 1 TB will start shipping to select markets later in the month.
